The company Essilor who created the "Refraction Mobile Van Project" is a French company created there over 40 years, publicly traded (EuroNext and CAC 40), which manufactures and markets prescription eyewear and equipment of ophthalmic optics.
This project aims to make rural communities more sensitize about the problems of view. Indeed, in the remotest regions of the Indian subcontinent, many people are still unaware that the view can be altered over time and that means can effectively address the short comings eye.In many cases, impaired vision represents a major handicap and is directly responsible for unemployment, social isolation and a larger scale have a direct impact on the economy.
"Refraction Mobile Van Project" is aimed primarily for poor rural areas where medical knowledge and care access are limited. It is done for all residents of the villages visited without exceptions. The medical team thanks to their Van provides a comprehensive eye diagnosis and provides tools for correction and treatment if necessary. From its creation in 2005 till January 31st, 2012, the project conducted by Essilor allowed to control the vision of more than 271,000 people in rural areas and to provide means of vision correction more than 60,000 people through visits conducted in 2473 villages.
Essilor for this project has invested more than 2.5 million rupees in five years. This budget includes the establishment of Van conditioned and equipped to care, the stock of lenses and frames but also the staff of Van, consisting of a driver, two ophthalmologists, an optician and a person in charge of schedules. The important point of this project is that investments involved are not only monetary but also material providing new products adapted to the population.
The originality of this project is really appreciated,we can say that they allow the under privileged people to benefit from Essilor's knowledge and experience. It is a huge know-how they provide to the rural population and all this is free of cost. It is also a sustainable and durable action because it helps the people concerned in the long run in spite of providing punctual help.
